Release 22 — Quality of Life
Release 22
Release 22 is a quality-of-life update.
Did you know that lookingforgroup.social does care about its users?
One of the core ideas is that I would rather shut down the service than take advantage of our users. The end goal is to employ a small group of talented people to make something great for people to enjoy. That is why I take user feedback very seriously, so if you see something that can be improved on the site, do let us know with the feedback form!
How much does it cost?
A user wanted to know how much it costs before they signed up for the service. Users can create an account for free at lookingforgroup.social . The landing page has been updated with that information. What can you do with a free account? The core mission is to get people connected in the real world and with a free account you can create your public profile and express interest in joining clubs. You can also create a club up to 12 people in your neighborhood. A free account lets you create members-only events for your club. This platform will let you successfully organize in your neighborhood for small clubs. If you find it useful, then we ask that you make a donation to support the effort.
What are the 'premium' features?
Currently, there are no 'premium' features available but there are some planned. Here is a preview:
- Enable club public events - allow any authenticated user in your area to Explore and find your event and RSVP.
- Sponsor accounts - account for businesses to put their dot on the Explore map and let local people see their businesses. The idea is that users can find those local businesses and call on them when needed.
- Organizations - if your club has more than 12 people, it might be time to upgrade to an organization and be able to host public events. Organization will work just like clubs but with an unbounded member limit and the ability to host public events.
Where is my message?
With the rollout of the messaging feature, a user notified me that they could not see the message. Oh no! That isn't good. The trouble was that the message was displayed below the user profile that sent the message, so on a mobile device it was difficult to get to the information. The messages are now displayed first.
What is the flashing?
On the dashboard there are onboarding slides that appear when a user is setting up their account. For a user that has completed these steps the onboarding slides would flash for a moment when the data was still loading from the database. This was very noticeable when using a mobile network with poor connectivity. A recent change waits for the data to finish loading before making the decision to show the slides.
Backend updates
The /dashboard page was updated to minimize the amount of data transferred between the client and the database. This should not be noticeable by the user.
What next?
Complete your profile and enable the 'Searchable' property to allow verified users to find you on the map. Another awesome thing would be to join a club or create your own club and then share it with your friends and see if you can add a few more people to your social circle.
lookingforgroup.social was created to get people connected in the real world. We need community leaders (a.k.a. club managers) to form clubs and we need users to enable that 'Searchable' toggle. Let everyone know you're ready to be social!
